4th Annual Elder & Dependent Adult Abuse Symposium
The Riverside County Department of Public Social Services, Adult Services Division, is hosting the 4th Annual Elder & Dependent Adult Abuse Symposium on Wednesday June 28, 2017. The event is open to the community, and will be held at the Riverside Convention Center from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The purpose of the Elder & Dependent Adult Abuse Symposium is to promote awareness and support, as well as improve collaboration and service provision among partner agencies and organizations throughout Riverside County. The theme of this year’s Symposium is “It takes a community…” which reflects the need for community agencies and organizations to create more innovative/collaborative solutions to be able to effectively meet the changing demands and needs of our community.
There are approximately 367,000 adults over the age of 60 in Riverside County. Studies show 1 in 10 Americans over the age of 60 experience abuse or neglect. That represents about 36,700 older adults in our county alone. Studies also indicate that many incidents of abuse go unreported each year. The symposium aims to increase knowledge of this issue, and represents a collaborative approach to improve the quality of life for older and dependent adults in Riverside County.
