Concussion Services

A concussion is not simply a bump to the head. It is a traumatic injury to the brain. In addition to causing short-term symptoms, there is growing evidence that concussion can lead to long-term brain damage and neurologic deficits.

Concussion symptoms and signs are sometimes difficult to recognize. Unfamiliarity with them may lead to missed diagnoses. Patients may return to work/play too soon, resulting in delayed care and a higher risk for complications. Proper diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care are critical to the patient's physical, cognitive and mental health.

The UCR Comprehensive Sports Concussion Program includes a multidisciplinary team of specialists in Clinical Neuropsychology, Headache Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pain Medicine, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, and Sports Medicine. Our medical staff is specifically trained in brain injury and experienced in providing care for both pediatric and adult patients. Further, our concussion specialists are uniquely qualified to offer neuropsychological testing to evaluate the injury's impact on brain function.
