National HIV Testing Day

June 27th marks National HIV Testing Day (NHTD). One of the many goals of NHTD is to encourage everyone to get tested for HIV, know their status, and seek care or further education.  This year’s theme is “HIV Testing is Self-care.” Nowadays, there are many options to get tested for HIV, including rapid self-tests. Please visit https://locator.hiv.gov/ to find an HIV testing site near you.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus, also known as HIV, is a virus that targets the immune system, causing the patient to be more susceptible to other infections or diseases. It is spread through contact with bodily fluids, most commonly during unprotected sexual intercourse. If left untreated, HIV can lead to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Symptoms of HIV can be managed with effective treatment.
