  • National Cholesterol Education Month

September is National Cholesterol Education Month. In the United States, heart disease is the number one leading cause of death. High blood cholesterol is a major cause of heart disease which can result in heart attacks and strokes.

Cholesterol is a fat-like substance in your body produced by the liver, for the most part. A human typically has cholesterol intake from food that is high in saturated and trans fats such as meat, poultry, full-fat dairy products, and more.  Other factors may also cause an increase in cholesterol such as being overweight, inactive, older in age, smoking, or genetically having relatives that have high cholesterol levels.

National Cholesterol Education Month was created to inform the public on how important it is to look after your cholesterol levels and educate others about the number one leading cause of death worldwide which is heart disease.
