I strive to provide outstanding care to all my patients. I aim to work with not only patients but also family and caregivers to meet patient needs. My goal is to maintain functionality and independence in my older adult patients.

Dr. Alia Tuqan is a board-certified geriatrician who brings a wealth of experience and leadership. With a career spanning academic medicine, clinical practice, and geriatrics education, she is deeply committed to improving the lives of older adults. Dr. Tuqan served as the Medical Director of both the UC Davis Healthy Aging Clinic and its Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Program, where she helped lead multidisciplinary efforts to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care. As Geriatrics Fellowship Program Director and Clinical Professor at the UC Davis School of Medicine, she was equally passionate about training the next generation of geriatricians.

• Why did you go into medicine? I like the balance between supporting patients and their loved ones, working with a dedicated team of healthcare workers, and applying science in ways that directly improve life.
• What are the unique skills you have as a physician? I am a fellowship-trained geriatrician offering care for older adults with various conditions such as memory problems and dementia, gait instability, and falls, as well as frailty.
• Why did you choose your specialty and what are a few ways specialists in your field are making a difference in the world? I chose geriatrics because I like providing relationship-centered care to not only patients but also caregivers. I also like how geriatrics focuses on functionality, independence, and what matters to the patient.
• Outside of medicine, what do you enjoy doing? I enjoy cooking and traveling.
