I strive to create a warm, supportive environment where children and families feel heard, respected, and understood. I take time to listen closely, understand each individual’s unique story, and approach care with empathy, clinical insight, and collaboration. I want my patients and their families to know that I truly care, not just about their mental health, but about their growth, strengths, and long-term well-being.

Dr. Kimberley D. Lakes is a licensed clinical psychologist, researcher, and passionate advocate for children’s mental health and development. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and completed her clinical training at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and CHOC–UCI. Dr. Lakes is excited to bring her experience working with children, adolescents, and families to support their well-being through evidence-based assessment, therapy, and consultation. She is especially committed to advancing access to high-quality care for diverse and underserved communities.

• What is your philosophy on patient treatment/bedside manner? Every person is an individual with a unique story that should be heard.
• Outside of medicine, what do you like doing? Traveling, reading, hiking, and spending time with my husband and three children.
• What about UCR Health interests you? UCR's approach to community medicine is unique and exciting and has tremendous potential in this region. I am excited to be joining the School of Medicine in its early years and look forward to contributing to its growth in the years to come.
